Creating

Beyond just improvising and composing, creating music is the artistic process of playing with and crafting sound. Here are some of the tools we have found to be useful for collaborative and creative use of technology.

Soundation

This newer cloud-based tool allows you and your students to have access to a professional quality Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), free digitial instruments, loops, and more. Also, using Google+, numerous students can collaborate on a single musical work across distances and at different times. The downside to this is that it doesn't work on tablets or moble devices. However, it is a non-Mac alternative to Garageband, it's FREE, and it rocks... a lot! You may need to download a plugin.

Let's Explore:

- Click here to launch a Google+, real time collaboration jam.

- Click here to download a soundation file and add your own part to it.

Garageband for iOS

Though Garageband on OS (for Macs, not iPads or iPhones) is a helpful and powerful tool, collaborating using it can be tricky. That's where the iOS version (for iPads and iPhones) comes in handy. Using something called Jam Sessions, four devices on the same wifi connection can be linked up to play and record in real time. If you have an iPad or iPhone, this app is FREE now!
