Instruction

Welcome to the world of Blended Instruction. Beyond "flipping" your classroom (where you provide lecture/lesson videos for your students to access at home and then work with them on projects in class), blended instruction makes use of technology in and out of school to extend the reach of your curriculum.

TPACK

TPACK is founded on Shulman's idea of Pedagogical and Content Knowledge. Koehler added the technological element to Shulman's idea to express what teachers need in order to effectively make use of technology. Koehler notes:

"Effective technology integration for pedagogy around specific subject matter requires developing sensitivity to the dynamic, transactional relationship between these components of knowledge situated in unique contexts. Individual teachers, grade levels, school-specific factors, demographics, culture, and other factors ensure that every situation is unique, and no single combination of content, technology, and pedagogy will apply for every teacher, every course, or every view of teaching."

The Website as a Hub of Learning

Creating a powerful and engaging website is essential for empowering blended instruction in your music classroom. The website becomes the hub for all your scores, soundfiles, tutorial videos, lessons, visual aids, calendar, and even lesson plans. It becomes the portal for you and your students to access your carefully crafted examples of your Pedagogical Content Knowledge and (as you use good tech. tools and techniques) you can display your Technological Pedagogical Content Knolwedge (TPACK). Another model for using technology is SAMR, demonstrated wonderfully in this exemplar website by Abigail Blair and Kathryn Finch.
