Framining - Considering What Is.

 

In order to explore possibilities and pathways, we might do well to center ourselves, finding our place, our context, and uncovering our values. For the purpose of this experience, let's consider four important perspectives that have impact upon our work with others through music: the personal, the students, the community, and the broader social-cultural milieu. 

Framining - The Personal & Students

 

Consider the following questions:

 

  • Who are you? 

  • What musical practices do you engage in?

  • What materials do you us? 

  • Who are the students with whom you work?

  • What musicking practices do they engaged in?

  • What materials and tools do they use?

  • What values are apparent? 

Framining - Moving Beyond

 

If our identities, our practices, our tools, and our values frame our practice, what frames use? We will now consider the perspectives of the community and the broader social-cultural milieu. Consider each perspective as you answer these questions:

 

  • What musicking practices exist?

  • What physical materials are used for musicking?

  • What values are apparent?
